When we observe cells using an electron microscope (which we studied earlier), we cannot see living cells. This is because:

  • The process requires cells to be dried, fixed with chemicals, and coated with metals—which kills them.
  • Preparation is time-consuming; it can take several days just to ready one sample.
  • The final image is not seen directly through your eyes like in a light microscope. Instead, the image is displayed on a screen, typically a fluorescent screen coated with zinc sulphate that glows when hit by electrons.

🧠 Real-life Example: Think of how your X-ray is captured—you don’t see your bones directly; a machine shows it on a screen. Similarly, electron microscopes don’t show live images to our eyes; they send signals to screens.
