🧠 What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum?

Definition: The ER is like the factory and delivery system of the cell. It’s a network of tubes and sacs (cisternae) spread through the cytoplasm.

• These tubes connect with the nuclear envelope, meaning whatever is made in the nucleus can move easily into the ER.

🏭 Think of it as a highway connected to the headquarters (nucleus) that transports and processes products inside the cell.

• Processes and transports them to different parts of the cell.

⚙️ Types of ER: RER and SER

1️⃣ Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER)

Appearance: Has ribosomes on its surface, which makes it look rough.

🔬 Under a microscope, it looks bumpy due to the ribosomes.

Functions:

• Makes proteins with the help of ribosomes.
• Processes proteins by adding sugars or chemicals.
• Sends proteins to other parts of the cell or the Golgi apparatus for final packaging.
