🔬 What Are Plastids?
Plastids are double-membrane-bound organelles found only in plant cells and some algae.
- They perform vital functions like photosynthesis, pigment synthesis, and food storage.
- All plastids originate from a common precursor: proplastids.
Three Main Types:
- Chloroplasts – Green, photosynthetic plastids
- Chromoplasts – Colored plastids (red, yellow, orange)
- Leucoplasts – Colorless plastids for storage
