🌱 Chloroplasts

These plastids contain chlorophyll and are the site of photosynthesis.

Structure:

  • Enclosed by a double membrane
  • Internal system of membranes called thylakoids, stacked into grana
  • Fluid surrounding grana is called stroma

Functions:

  • Absorbs sunlight using chlorophyll
  • Converts light energy into glucose through photosynthesis
