🧪 Types and Occurrence of Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll is a type of lipid molecule (meaning it’s fat-like and doesn’t dissolve in water). But there isn’t just one kind — there are several types, depending on where they are found and what organisms use them.

🌱 In Plants and Algae:

The following types of chlorophyll are found:

  • Chlorophyll a – the main pigment that captures light and drives photosynthesis.
  • Chlorophyll b, c, and dsupporting pigments that help collect more light.

Remember: Chlorophyll a is essential. Without it, photosynthesis cannot happen.

There are other special types of chlorophyll called bacteriochlorophylls. These are adapted for bacteria that live in low-light environments, like in mud or underwater, where regular light doesn’t reach easily.
